Bwaaaa Haaaa Haaaa... My tactic is working as planned. You are all now so intimidated that you will climb back on your treadmills and put the oly bars down.... I will rule this competition now.

Now to get more serious about my deads so that my right ass cheek can beat up Nutbar's right ass cheek.

Quads are BIG muscles and easy to make bigger. The more muscle you have the faster you burn fat. it all make sense in a sick sort of way. My quads are feeling significantly better today but am still grabbing wall to sit down. I am in this state about 3-4 days every week lately.

You look amazing and inspire me to continue on this strength quest! Sounds like you are putting up with some significant pain, but MAN, does it look worth it!

If that's true you're gonna start looking at yourself a little too long in the mirror and you'll only see your rack. To the point where you'll begin to wonder how to bulk it up as well.

I am now quite used to the pain. I wake up almost every night at some point becaus I move and it hurts. I am led to believe that this is part of the process. The tearing and rebuilding of muscle tissue. It is not a bad pain through. It is good and I think worth it.

Thans Ginny Lou. I was surprised when I took these pictures of how much I moved since last month. My shoulders are so getting large.

Work out 3/4/08
(back, lats)

Warm up Superset
Hip curls on the back extender holding medicine ball
1x15 (8lb)
2x12 (12lb)
Incline crunch and twist holding weighted bar to forehead
1x15 each side (12lb)
1x12 each side (15lb)
1x10 each side (20lb)

DB One arm Row
1x15 (25lb) e
2x12 (30lb) e

Cable rope lat pull down
3x15 (72lb)

Assisted pulls (semi-lateral)
3x12

Swiss ball lower back flyes (2lb e db)
Description: Lay belly on ball and toes against wall at floor. Stretch out with db in hands on floor. Lift up db keeping shoulders down and press shoulder blades together. Keeping arms high, take arms back and pump 10 times before going back to starting position via same route. These made some very obscure muscles in my back tingle.
1x10

Ab roller (3 point)
3x18

We also did a check up on my Russian Shuffle because I had improved these so much in my workout from the time he worked with me on it. It turns out that for the most part I was doing them okay so the improvement did not come entirely from crappy form.

He took my food charts last week and so I expected a lecture on something food related but it turns out that he is pretty happy and even proud of me in fact for getting up to so many kcals a day and so cleanly. He made it a point to tell the other trainer who was there how I had managed to get up that high. The other trainer just laughed and looked at me and I patted my belly. Now they are calling me “fluffy” or “puffy” ‘cause I am getting so big. The facts are though that the muscles are definitely popping out despite all the fat covering them so something is working. I am also not yet gaining fat by the tester so that is cool too.

My shoulder blade area right now is so killing me. I want to lay on an ice block right now. Tonight on the way home I will stop and do some sort of interval work for 20 or so minutes.

If none of your friends are like you I can see where they would think you are a little loopy .

I can't wait for comments my circle of friends will give me. They don't like it already and I haven't gone ANYWHERE LOL! My hubby? We will see when I get there.

I always love it on training days to see what new muscles show up. Tonight my back looked amazing. I am SO looking forward to see where this month takes me. I am pretty sure that next month we will start cutting. I am almost sad to see this come now.... Weird but I am getting used to eating....

I am loving this lifting buisness but sad news is that my running is starting to suffer as I gain. I finally get at a deep level the point that running and lifting to get big are counter to one another.

Tonight I had a most wonderful workout. I did not feel like going to the gym so much as my back was sore from yesterday but I went in anyway. I did a tri/chest/shoulder workout and by the end of it I had this amazing feeling going on in my shoulders. My skin felt so tight I thought it would burst and my arms were floating. I believe this is known as the "pump". At first it scared me a little bit because it was so intense. I checked to make sure that I wasn't tearing my skin. It was cool and it went away in fairly short order.

There is this older guy who works out at my gym a lot of the time I am there. He chats it up with everyone he can. Truth be told though he has a hell of a nice body for an older gent. Tonight he asked me how long I have been doing weight training. I informed him for just a few months. He told me that my body was really wonderful (I love the old guys) and congratulated me on my progress. Then he asked me if I was eating clean and made sure I knew where the best non-fat cottage cheese is sold. I have a new appreciation for Ed after tonight.

My trainer had me warm up and cool down with this bicep exercise called twenty one. I used a barbell for this. I still love the bicep curls just becuase of how big they make you look when you are doing them. My arm muscles just pop out all over the place and so do all the veins. My GOD I am starting to get so veiny. In a sick sort of way it looks cool.

Workout

rest = 60
warmup on tready 5 min at 5.5 and 3% incline

Twentyones
1x12 (20 lbs)
1x21 (30 lb)
1x21 (40lbs) - I failed the very last rep actually

bb close grip press
1x20 (45lbs)
1x15 (65lbs)
1x12 (70lbs)
1x8 (85lbs)

close grip push ups on bench
1x4 on toes
2x15 on knees

Super set
Cable tri press
3x15 (20lbs)
cable pec flyes
1x20 (20lbs)
1x15 (30lbs)
1x15 (40lbs)

HIT run on tready
25 min (1 min fast/1 min slow) 4.0mph and 8.0mph at 3% incline

LOVE the pump! After the whole convo. about random men commenting on you in the gym, it had to feel great to receive such compliments from a guy whose only intentions were on the level!
I love 21's and they work magic for that popping, for sure.
I agree about the veininess--it's a little gross, but deep down it makes me infinitely proud.

Interesting arm workout -- very isolated and lots of volume. That'll certainly cause some pump! I'd never heard of using 21s as warmups, usually they're "finishers". I know that for me, once my biceps are fried that's it. They don't recover for hours.

Were you having any muscle twitches afterward? Because those would be spasmgasms.

SpasmGasms are cool too but didn't have any from this workout. I was just feeling tight skinned and floaty. It was so tight that it almost hurt. I do sometimes in my workouts with my trainer get SpasmGasms. Last week after one exercise I had to sit down to catch my breath and as I was sitting there my arms just started to shake totally on their own. I could do nothing to stop it. I freaked out a little bit about that and my trainer just laughed at me and told me that was all part of the game.

I think he gets a kick out of seeing me experience these things for the first time. Awhile back when I saw the veins for the first time my eyes got huge and I looked at him like he had just hit me and said, "You're making me veiny" ....like he could somehow touch me and make it all go away. He laughed really hard about that one too. Especially after I made a face and said, "ewwww"

Another time I got this cramp in my pec after doing some exercises and I had to lay down and hold it until it went away. He really couldn't help me too much 'cause my boob was in the way. He laughed because I was complaining about my boob and I kept saying that it wasn't funny but I was laughing too in between the pain spasms. It kind of reminded me of the saying "It's only funny until someone gets hurt. Then it's hilarious" He told me once that time with me really flies. It's because he is always laughing at me.

That's okay... One day I won't be such a Noobie and then I can laugh at other people!

Oh I don't know about that. It doesn't matter how old they are... If they still have a pecker their intentions are always down there.

Well Karla what are you going to do about your running. Is it weights or running?

Weights are addicting but I have heard of the runner's high. So which is it?

Those workouts look great. I am glad you are enjoying yourself.

I have made a commitment for 6 months to this so it will be the weights for that time. After that I will re-assess. Today we did squats in my trainer session and to tell the truth the endorphin rush that I get when under a heavy load and squating more than competes with the runner's high. It is like I am transported from my being and am just watching myself do this incredible feat. It is very "out-of-body" and pretty damn awesome. So I am happy with the decision right now.

Today was squat/quad day with the trainer.

Today's warmup was exceptionally long. I felt a bit of IT band tightness on the tready as I was warming up so the trainer brought out the foam roller and made me roll the IT bands. I HATE to foam roll the IT bands. It freak'n hurts. He made me do both sides and made me do it until I nearly cried. He said I need to learn to breath through the pain and that skill would transfer to my lifting. This torture lasted seemingly forever.

Then he took me to the stairs and I got to run up the stairs some number of times 2 at a time to get a good stretch in my hammies and quads. Then we did BSS type of squats 3x15 each leg. This was my warm up.

Squats
1x20 (45lb)
1x15 (90lb)
2x10 (135 lb) This time I was able to get pretty low in the squat which was cool and explode up out of them. On the last set, I really did not have anything left so they sort of got sloppy and weak but it was not too bad for an old girl like me.

We had a good deal of discussion. I have been a bit off of my calories this week. On Sunday I sort of relaxed and did only 2400 then on Tuesday I only did 2200 and yesterday again I did 2400. He asked me what the deal was with that and I explained that it felt better to me. He fussed at me a bit and then said I needed to hit no less than 2700 for the rest of this week. (sigh...) It was feeling pretty good to be at the lower numbers too.

I asked him then about the cutting process and what it is about and how it works. He informed me that cutting is infinately harder to get right than gaining. With gaining you just put it on by eating clean and a lot and watch for fat gain but not a big deal if you gain some fat. With cutting you need to drop fat but as little as possible of the muscle that you worked so hard to build. I asked him if I would still be lifting in the cut phase and he replied of course we would but that I would be weaker. He explained that cutting is a fine art because you have to balance fat loss with energy loss and muscle loss and to get to that point we will have to be ultra anal retentive about diet and logging. Fortunately that is my strong point so I am not too worried about that. He also said that I might end up tanking at some point during the cut phase as we experiment. Fortunately I am living this through many of your logs so mostly it should not be a big shocker to me.

On the UP side of the session, as I was standing in the squat rack he made some very complimentary comments about the progress I was doing. He pointed out the nice definition I was getting in my pecs and the he said my rear delts where showing themselves as well and he also pointed out some others. Then he laughed and said that he was feeling pretty proud of himself for all of this progress. Of course he then turned it around and said the he really appreciated the dedication and commitment I was putting into this. He then started to talk to me about showing. I told him I wasn't really interested but he said we have time to talk about it. He said that I have some real advantages in this area already. One of them is my calves. I have awesome calves with a nice v-shape form in them. I came to him with them and he said that calves are something you either have or don't have and they are hard to form. He also said my shoulders are really nice and I am putting on muscle quite well all over. Anyway.... It was nice to hear that he is happy and the competition discusion can go on another time. For now I am happy doing this for me and of course in our fun competition.

It's really not that attractive. I would probably opt out of them if I really had the choice. Since no choice I will enjoy them in a sick sort of way.
