I've never attended a summit before, but dang if that wouldn't be a reason to.

The fact that this group of people all get together for an event is one of the reasons I wanted to join your family. I am in a classical guitar internet group and we gather once a year too out here in Portland. The event started at my farm and is now in a college dorm because it got so big. I love this event and have gown so fond of the friends I made. Just as important, I learn more about the classical guitar in that one week then I do in months of regular study. It is highly likely that I will crash a party that I am invited to anywhere in the world with such fine people as on this board. As a newbie I could learn so much.

I've only been to one of the JP Fitness Summits. It broke my heart to miss my second opportunity.

JP plays classical guitar too, I think. You could have a competition, and the loser buys me dinner.

Cuz it was my idea.

Uh... Sure... Why not?

That would be awesomely cool if he did play. I don't go anywhere without my guitar so I would be ready and willing to play when I got there. I am wondering how these summits work. With the classical guitar group we sit around and play the guitar all night and all day long. With this sport there is an awful lot of resting that goes on in between actual workouts. I wonder just what the hell you guys do in all that rest time.

I would just love meeting all of you. I know for sure that my sides would hurt from laughing....

JP does - if you look in the Other forum, he posted a sound clip of him playing but I don't recall which composer.

Today's workout with the trainer = hamstring day

Deadlifts
1x20 (45lb)
1x15 (95lb)
1x12 (100lb)
1x8 (135lb)

upright hamstring curl (on a machine)
1x20 (xxx)
3x15 (xxx) I forgot to get the weights

back extenstion (hamstring raises)
1x20 (bw)
1x15 (+8lbs)

Swiss ball hamstring curl
3x15

I did not PR here but that is because he made me start at a low weight and get my form a little tighter. He said that my legs were a little too spread apart and he did not think I was in my heels strong enough. I was also rolling my ankles at the bottom. So today we worked less on strength and more on form. An interesting note here is that I do not (am not allowed to) go all the way to the floor again with my deads. I go down way below my knees but stop right before I touch the ground. I wonder if you are all going all the way down to the floor as is recommended in NROL?

Cool side note as we were doing the deads another trainer who is in that gym walks past me and stops dead in his tracks and comments about how big I am getting. He gave my trainer some kudos and me too... Others are starting to see the changes in me.

I also talked to my trainer RE the fat gain and my plan to cut back cals. He told me that I am to continue with my cals and to not worry about a little bit of fat gain. He said that because I am on a timeline (July 7th to 10%) that we must eat fast and hard and gain as much as we can and that would include some fat. He explained that the fat was not a bad thing as it helped with hormone production. He also explained that it would be much better if we had 6 months for a first bulk and then we would be more careful about adding slowly. He reviewed my food intake over the past week and besides getting an inordinate amount of sodium I think he was happy. In any case I have to continue on with eating and eating and eating.....

Normally I go all the way to the floor, but you did more than 50 reps today and what the trainer did with you is pretty smart. The real benefit/work for the hams comes into play when the bar gets to and above your knees anyway.

The same technique if often used for low-rep, near-max weight days when doing rack pulls. It's an even shorter range of motion but really hits the posterior chain.

Thanks for the answer to that. My trainer did say that the real MEAT of the exercise was up higher as well. I am icing my hamstrings right now. I hate icing.... Uless it is on a cake of course.

I know..... I am freak'n freezing here.... I swear I am icing and taking Ibuprofen every single day it seems. Good news though is that hammies are bigger than they were and stronger. The right one (injured one) is still a touch smaller and I still favor it. We are working those issues now though. I would never have come back from this injury so fast if not for this program.

Kuri plays classical guitar, too. He and JP both played at the summit two years ago.

Wow.... Amazing so many players in one group. Maybe we can play guitar while we are doing all the resting that we do in between exercising. Or maybe we should all just go get drunk instead. They do make alchohol with stevia don't they?

Prior summits have proven that drunkenness and guitar playing are not mutually exclusive. Keith Richards also did his own independent study on the subject.

It's my "Getting Serious About the Challenge" look.

Also I am trying to intimidate everyone with my "bigness".

Seriously, it feels so amazing to finally get some meat on my bones instead of fat or skinny fat.

LOL!! I tried to not do that actually for this one though I have done that in the past more than once.... Being in the challenge makes it impossible to get away with such trickery. In fact pictures are this weekend..... I am so excited to see the progress of everyone. Last month's pictures exceeded my expectation given how everyone was griping about not changing.

Definately more excited to see others than me. I see me every day.

Tonight was Ballys night and it was time to kill the quads again.

60 second rest

Warmup - db push press
1x20 (20lb) e
1x15 (25lb) e
1x10 (25lb) e (to failure)

squats
1x20 (45lb)
1x15 (95lb)
1x12 (115lb)
1x10 (135 lb)

Yeah I can squat me now!!

Russian Shuffle (12lb bar)
4x20 steps each leg (+ 1 set from last time)

This is the exercise that kicked my ass so badly last time. Tonight not so badly and I got another set in. Next time I will increase the weight.

db walking lunges
1x15 (25lb) e - interesting here I simply could not do these well (not enough juice) so I backed way down and started with bw
1x40 (bw)
1x25 (15 lb) e
1x10 (25 lb) e

my legs felt like air when it was over and when I sat in the sauna I had veins going all over my quads. I am starting to get used to the veins.

As I am at the gym I got a message from my trainer. It said, "U wouldn't be so puffy if you lowered UR sodium" Apparently he was reading my food log sometime today and I am busted for too much sodium intake. Sigh.... Back to the drawing board with the food thing..... I'm wondering if he doesn't have anything better to do with his Friday....

Monthly progress report time

Week 1
5'4.5"
134 lbs
21.5% BF

Week 4
5'4.5"
129.4 lbs
17.9% BF

Week 8
5'4.5"
132.4 lbs
17.8% BF

WoooHooo!!! 3lbs of gain and no body fat gain. I thought I was gaining fat earlier in the week but that turned out to be a little bit of water retention due to cycling.

I am so excited. I am eating like a PIG every single day and getting leaner and stronger. When I look at these pics I see the most noticeable differnce in my pecs and shoulders. This is where everyone else is seeing changes in me too. I also can see the leaner in other places. I can also see how my quads got huger down near the knee. How cool is this?

I bought a different outfit to pose in so that my back isn't covered and also where my bottoms fit. They were a bit big. This one shows a lot more skin so more areas to improve.

Dang it. I thought that said "massage" from your trainer. I thought for sure you had achieved the trainer-gasm. I'm disappointed and will now be forced to look elsewhere for today's satisfaction.

Oh, yeah, Karla, if you're (or anyone) going to the summit (it's going to be in Little Rock, right?) can swing on by here if it's on your way and we'll feed ya or at least say hi. I did the Mud Run in LR last fall and it was only 3 hours or so from here.

I'll stop by but then I am dragging your ass to the summit with me even if it is bigger than both my biceps. (of course after we eat and all)

Today's working from the comfort of my own home gym and farm

Hill Sprints 20 min (8 times today!) This nearly killed me as my quads are still very sore from Friday night's workout.

Rest = 60

Superset 1
Incline db close grip press
1x15 (15lbs)
2x20 (20 lbs)
1x6 (30 lbs)
1x5 (20 lbs)

incline db pec flye
1x15 (15lb)
3x10 (20lb)

dips
1x6
1x7
1x9

1/2 pushups
3x4 (on knees)

Superset 2
reverse crunch
3x15 (bw)
Close grip curls
1x15 (30lbs)
2x10 (45lbs)

Hanging leg raises
3x15

On a peronsal note I had dinner with some old friends who I had not seen for three months. They were completely blown away by the changes in my body. When I excused myself to take a little bio break they asked my other friend if I was eating properly as they were worried about me wasting away to nothing and all. LOL! If they only knew that I am eating right at 3000 kcals a day!!! In fact I got up from that table (we talked for about 1.5 hours) and went straigt to my car and made a 600 calorie gainer to hold me over until I got home.
