It really has me wondering because we are led to believe that our dominant leg is usually the same side as our handedness. I wonder how many others are like us, and not following the "norm".
I really didn't notice such a difference until Stage 2 and 3. Now, I wish I would have known for m lunges and step-ups in Stage 1.

I was aware of it before and therefore when reading the exercise descriptions I was uncertain what was my dominant leg. I am definitely "right-legged" in the way I am right-handed, because I lead with my right leg and if I was a footballer (ha ha) I would be right-footed. However with these one legged exercises my more stable leg is always the left. It does make a big difference too - something can be quite hard on one side and much easier on the other - I usually do the harder side first to get it out of the way.
"footballer" - should say "soccer player" on here I think?

I'm right handed. My left arm is generally stronger (at most things) than my right. My right leg is generallyl stronger (at most things) than my left.
No wonder I'm so confused and spend so much time walking in circles.

Ya know... now that you mention it I have also noticed my opposite leg is stronger. I'm right handed and have been doing the one-legged exercises with ym left first... and always seem to have more trouble finishing with the right. Perhaps I should switch and see if I can balance it out.
Great workout Jane!!!! Stage 3 is a killer, I'm doing the first B workout tomorrow. Keep up the awesome work!!!

Even though I'm right-handed, my right leg is much weaker than my left. I noticed it right away, and had been attributing it to a minor hip injury I'd gotten from running a couple of years ago. Maybe its the hip, but maybe that leg had always been weaker, and that's why I got the injury in the first place? Who knows.

I am right-handed and my right leg is the weaker one in step-ups and single leg work also. Other people I talk to find the same thing. It seems to be a balance issue rather than a strength issue. I wonder if it's because I would lead with my right leg in most things (e.g. kicking or stepping up onto something) and therefore the left leg becomes the one that I use to balance on more often.
|
I think that's it: strength vs. balance. My right leg is stronger in terms of power, but not in terms of stabilizing. My left leg is stronger in terms of balance, but not in terms of power.
I used to play soccer, and I always kicked with my right leg, but that meant my left leg was stabilizing me. I also sprained my right ankle far more often than my left. In TKD, I kick with my right leg more often, so it's better at the kicking motions, while my left just flails around--but on the other hand (foot?), my left leg gets more stabilizing work, so I'm more likely to lose my balance on my right leg.
We probably lead with our "dominant" leg or learn to do things more efficiently on that side, but the other leg is getting more stabilizing work that we realize. And these multiple single-leg exercises just serve to highlight (and hopefully correct) these differences in strength and balance.

Last lifting day was 3-16 and I was slated to do my 3rd workout A of Stage 3 last night. However, I was feeling a bit of a sciatic-like aching down my right leg the last 2 days, so I opted to give it another day of rest. Feels good today. So, tonight I will do the killer workout A.
Nutrition still right on target. It's crazy that I am running out of pants to wear. I have more clothes than any normal person should have, but I am having a hard time finding something to wear to work each morning. I am going to have to have some major altering done on my really good ones and I am going to have to shop soon. I wanted to wait until I was at my goal, but I am afraid I will not be able to wait. As good as my results have been, I still have stubborn areas that seem to want to stick around, despite being at my lowest scale weight in many years. But, if the Omron is to be trusted (not!), I have maintained my lean mass (even gained a bit) and just lost fat. I am hoping that is semi-accurate.
By the way, attached is an updated pic of Sophie at 6 weeks. She will be coming home on April 11!

She is half-Maltese, half-Poodle and will be about 4-5 lbs when full-grown.

Woo hoo, Jane! Do you have any great consignment shops there? If I know I am going to be losing, I will check those out, sometimes.
Now, go get yourself some pants!
Your weights are great and you are so much stronger than when you started this, don't you think?
Oh and Sophie is so cute!

I'd say the fact that you are needing new (smaller) clothes says you're heading in the right direction. Nice work.

Wooohooo!!! on the clothing thing. I have become a regular at the GoodWill this past year. The first loss I went ahead and bought a new wardrobe but then I lost more and yet again more. I ended up buying 3 times before it was all said and done.
I can already tell that Sophie will be spoiled rotten.

Both congrats and my sympathies on need new clothes! I personally HATE shopping and have been known to duct tape pants to get them to stay up rather than buy new. I doubt that would work for your job, though. LOL
