Thumbs up BBB

I am looking to start Big Boy Basics & head towards some muscle building goals.

How long would you stay on the programme for & would you stick to the 4X routines a week for someone that has been out of the gym for a few months?

Thanks

1. Until you stop making progress.

2.
A: If you're using the book I *believe* it's a 3x per week split, so you wouldn't go 4x regardless of how long you've been out.
B: If you're using the T-Nation routine (I don't know how many days a week that one is off the top of my head) then 4x would likely be fine. You'll know soon enough if it's not..

3. Regardless, follow the program as written or find a different program that you don't have to modify.

Thanks Gobbla.

I was wanting to do it as a 3 day a week programme. Is it acceptable to just take the last workout of the week & put it to the start of the next week?

Sure. It's changing the program, so keep that in mind, but you're not going to die or nazi space monkeys aren't going to come and suck out your brains or anything. Give it a shot.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if Chad recommended a more complex modification in his book when turning it into a 3 day a week workout.

Damn space monkeys!

He did...but you need to buy the book to find out what the differences are.

Here's the deal. The program designer sets out to achieve a certain amount of balance of movements per week and per cycle. They set out to achieve a certain amount of balance between daily and weekly volume. A 4 day split is going to be different than a 3 day. It's designed specifically to be that way.

I'd argue that for all given purposes it's probably irrelevant to you. It's not "you" personally but the focus should be progression through major compound lifts (BBB has this). Every session you need to get better at doing what you're doing. If you do this 3 days a week on a 4 day split you're still progressing and improving. THAT is the #1 priority here. A good plan that you're willing to do is going to net you gains. A perfect plan that you don't do is a waste of effort.
