Default BBB Seated calf raise question

Hello all,

I am testing for 1rm in order to start BBB next week. I need an alternative to the seated calf raise machine. The only one my gym has is an old nautilus brand that uses plates where the pad rests directly on top of my knee caps and causes very sharp pain. I tried scooting forward to place the pads above my knees but this places the angle of my shin at about 45 degrees from my upper leg. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matt

I suppose you could use the leg press machine. Don't release the safety and hang your heels off the edge of the press plate. I had a trainer tell me to use that since that gym didn't have the seated machine. Our seated machine does bother my knees at times. I've found that using less weight will usually work it out. JAT

you can put plates on your lap - you can do one leg at a time to accomodate more of a load using the plates on the thigh - you can use bands if you can figure how to anchor them - I suppose you could even use a BB or DB and stand in a semi-squat to flex the knees and then do your raises.

Sit on the edge of a flat bench and elevate your heels with a few 25 pound plates. Then, rest some plates on the tops of your thighs (as close to your knees as possible). That'll do the trick.
