This kind of stuff has been around for a long time, and I don't think anyone with any kind of serious training ethic looked into its viability for the ground game for a long time. This kind of skill was traditionally used in stand up striking and grappling, but it's definitely viable on the ground. It's the "engine" that makes some TMAs more viable (though let's be honest, if you don't train under pressure, no amount of "magic" skills will allow you to perform when push comes to shove), and also fills in the blanks as to why they used to perform using the silly postures and moves that they do. That includes styles running the gamut from the ever popular but of jokes Aikido&Wingchun, to Tai Chi, etc.
Btw, the following is a Chen Tai Chi guy giving instruction on similar stuff, with a bent on power generation in standup grappling:

He uses a similar concept of base, strong core, but with additional components of fascia, winding etc. His opponent isn't fully resisting but it's pretty respectable nonetheless.

The thing I'm interested is if Rickson is disclosing the "how to condition," as opposed to the how to "do." If he hasn't described in detail the "how to condition," I can't help but feel that people would be given the short end of the stick, since it's the conditioning of the core and back, along with legs in a specific manner that allow for a lot of seemingly impossible stuff to happen.

Another thing is, the core of these skills require almost a complete rewiring of the body in daily life, how you open a door, how to lift a mug...the way you use your body has to change, and a lot of people give up at this stage. There's a certain IQ threshold to this stuff as well that doesn't help either.

Certainly these are interesting times.
