You can have as many as you want. If you're lifting, a good amount of protein is ideal. So 3-4 shakes a day is certainly admissable.

However, most people agree that it is healthier to get most of your protein from whole food sources (because of the other nutrients that go along with them), like chicken, fish, beef, cheese, etc. And in fact it is also optimal for training results to do it this way.

Think of it this way: If you weigh 180 pounds, then the consensus is that you'd need at least 180g of protein every day (of course I don't know your specific goals). Now if you have 4 shakes a day, at about 20-25g per shake... you can still take in over 50% of your protein from other sources.

Anyway, my take is this: if you can afford it and are careful to include whole foods, then go for it!
