Default 6000th Post

Pull up a chair and grab your snack of choice. Mine at the moment is carrots from my lunch. I am going to tell you about the way JPF used to be and a cool tradition that has seems to have gone the way of dial up Internet connection.

Back in the early days of JP ~2003-04 everyone had low post count totals. It took real effort and contribution to the development of the community to get anything over triple digits in your count. There were no training logs to pass the time with idle banter. NROL was a twinkle in Lou's eye and there weren't over 20 sub forums. Posters of that era had essentially 3 forums to frequent if they wanted regular conversation (Training, Off Topic, and CE). Sure we played silly games like the Phoomer to raise our count but essentially it meant meaningfully contribute to the forum or actually work. I guess you could say in the early days we had to post uphill in the snow. Both ways. Along the way through those posts you learned a lot things, made some great friends, and had some fun times.

As a result the tradition of the milestone post was born. People would spend days in anticipation of reaching such an esteemed plateau that they would plan their milestone post with care as to not offend any one by omission. You most certainly wouldn't burn it saying nice work to Nick lifting the 25 lbs for the first time. Think of it as winning the Oscar of acceptance into the community. You just proved that you might know something. To take your award you better thank you mother and the back of the giants you stood on to get there. Maybe try to pass out some wisdom. I miss the milestone post. Some where along the way it got lost. As a result for my ~6,000th post I'm bringing it back. To all of you who just hit 1000 and beyond let's hear what you are thankful for about for this community and the words of wisdom you wish to pass on to future JPFer's get marked down for posterity or until JP and Don change the server again. Please round to the nearest 1000th though. Who wants to celebrate your 1123 post. If you don't believe me about the milestone post I offer up my own feeble attempt at thanks from my 3000th post. Other have better. Bump those up so we can remember and maybe even laugh about the bad fashion of the times.
