Deload weeks have definitely been a boon for me, and I'm glad they're built into my current program. When I lift heavy for a long period of time, my joints start wearing out and I get aches and pains in my wrists, elbows, shoulders, and (occasionally) knees. This affects my ability to lift heavy weights, which makes me weaker than I would otherwise be.
