Wow, I have a heart rate monitor, and it says that for some of my workouts I burn 500-600 calories (some of the ones with BWM even said 900).
That said, I'm 5'4" 160 pounds, and I get my heart rate up there, averaging in the 130-140 range for the hour long workouts, with my max getting to 181 (usually deadlifts).. I have always thought my heart rate monitor overestimated, but I didn't think it was *that* much!
