Default Limits to strength?

I was just thinking about this -
Say I can do a lat pulldown of 80lbs right now (15 reps). If I add 5 lbs every couple weeks in a year would I be able to lift 120lbs more than that or 300lbs? Or would I eventually hit a wall and not be able to increase any more. I don't even think the machine goes up to 300lbs.
