thanks for the encouragement everybody, it's great that there are several of us that are just starting and lots of people who are farther along cheering us on and giving helpful hints.
A big thank-you to whoever recommended fitday.com to figure out the nutrition and ratios. I'm finding it very helpful - i used to put in everything on the food labels in Excel but it wasn't telling me the ratios, and where my nutrient RDA gaps were. For example, I have epilepsy and my seizure medication strips out the calcium from my bones, causing my bone density to go down. I was glad to find out that I'm eating more than 100% of my RDA of calcium (not including multivitamin) but I need to watch my intake of Vitamin D. My calorie intake and my ratio of C/P/F is right on! Yay!
P.S. Double-yay! I had a bone density scan yesterday and my doctor just called to say it's normal! I've been weight-lifting since August 2007 but I've been taking seizure medications for 24 years, so I'm really relieved.
P.P.S. From last week to this a.m. - down 1 pound, fat% down 2.5%! w00t!
