When I made my only goal for working out to be walking through the gym door, it made things a lot easier. Don't worry about goals,etc....just walk through the door and the rest will take care of itself. Yes, sometimes it feels awkward being there "too much" ..... particularly if you are older, but it sure beats sitting on the couch. Buying occasional personal training sessions from one of the staff would be one way of making it a more welcoming environment. Or try buying multiple gym memberships if it feels too awkward being in one place too much.
