I had amenorrhea last year--it didn't last as long as your has (I went to the doc after three months--I'd always been regular so got scared and had visions of ovarian cancer or ovarian failure. *eyeroll*). I just saw my GP, but she did say that not having a period for that long "isn't healthy." I assume she meant "is a sign of poor health," though I guess it could be that if the lining builds up and doesn't shed that could lead to nastiness.

ANYWAY my doc put me on an Rx that I think was progesterone and that triggered me. When she and I discussed why it was happening we couldn't figure it out, but now I suspect it was underearting combined with poor sleep--neither of which she thought to touch upon other than "have you been feeling stressed?"

If you take the progesterone and that works for you, it (and I speak only from my personal experience, which admittedly hasn't been verfied) then I'd suspect that undereating/malnutrition got your hormones screwed up, rather than stress from work or whatever causing the loss. If it is from under/malnturition, thereotically now that you're taking care of your health you'd start up again naturally, but I don't know how long that would take.
