This is just anecdotal based on my own experience. I had hi tris about 10 years ago. My doctor told me that most people assume it is fat, but actually it is sugar that is the culprit. I cut out sodas which was the best thing I've ever done for a lot of reasons and my tris dropped by a third within one month. Now I try to only drink things that are completely calorie free, tea, coffee, water.
