OldGuy is teasing the OP - taking the words at face value and then answering in the absurd extreme.

You eat some protein every time you have eggs, beef, chicken, fish, turkey, pork, lamb, milk, cheese - even vegetables and grains contain protein - so to ask about eating protein on any particular day can be seen as a pretty silly question if you are in that sort of mood.

If you are asking about if you should consume a protein shake for any reason on a non-workout day (or a workout day for that matter) - it depends on what you are eating and if you are getting sufficient protein for your needs from whole food without it or if you think you need to supplement with a shake.
