Distal biceps tendon rupture
Oh boy am frustrated! Was doing some yard work a couple of weeks ago. A 6 foot long branch broke off from a pine tree in our backyard this past winter. I proceeded to try and wrestle it on to a wheelbarrow for disposal. As I was lifting it - using a modified form of sumo deadlift - I heard a noise emanate from my forearm accompanied by the telltale flash of pain indicating a just did something really stupid.
Fast foward and I had my distal biceps tendon rupture surgically repaired last Wednesday (4/29). The repair was done via a suture anchor and bone tunnel fixation. I'm currently in a sling and have a bruise that runs from my armpit to my wrist! Sutures will be removed this Friday, and I should get instrux on PT then as well.
I am really really bummed about this. I really enjoy working out and have been hearing it will be at least 3 months before I can lift anything, and likely 4-6 months before getting to my "new normal".
I'm interested in any other experiences or insight anyone can offer, especially around exercise during recovery. I definitely will continue to do lower body work (when cleared to do so) and would also like to keep some muscle on my healthy side through single arm, etc. I'll also look to do some more running as I can't even ride my bike.
Sorry for complaining. I'm so disapointed because I got back in to working out 5 years ago at age 37 and was pretty happy about the progress I made via weight training since then. It was a fun part of my routine and had become an important part of my life, and I know I'm going to really miss it while traveling the road to recovery.
Thanks !
