Hungry Like the Wolf
I'm reading this book called Shrink Yourself by Roger Gould. It is about overcoming emotional eating. My verdict is still out on the book as I am only a few chapters into it but I came across this story in it and I thought it might be inspiring to many of you on the board as it was to me.
"In one Native American folk tale, a grandfather explains to his grandson that he has two wolves inside him. One wolf fills him with hope and reminds him how wonderful his life is, and the other fills him with doubt and convinces him that nothing is worth the effort. The grandson asks, concerned for his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?" The grandfather replies, "Whichever one I feed."
I often find myself feeding the bad wolf--literally and figuratively. This anecdote reminded me that I am in charge here and can chose how I act, feel and respond.
