Default Fat man in a little coat....

OK, so I found this site and I have been reading a number of posts and have been inspired to post myself. I am not sure I am in the right spot but here goes....

http://www.flickr.com/photos/33605438@N05/3465740269/

I found this site after doing a little web searching for a fitness and nutrition routine that works for me and actually makes some sense. Over the last 4 months I have lost 25 lbs. eating better and running and doing some park pushups, pullups, situps, lunges, etc.

For the last 7 years I took a ‘break’ from working out. In those 7 years I built a house, had three kids, got a busy job, etc. Pretty good excuses to quit working out (or so I thought at the time).

Anyway, 4 months ago I ripped a suit coat due to my girth, and it was then I realized that this was just the beginning. In a few more years I could be pretty huge... 5-10 lbs of fat gain a year and I was going to be at the big and tall store. I guess all the business lunches, dinners, and fast food wasn't the optimal diet plan. And my 12 oz. curls weren't quite cutting it anymore. So I have decided to get back into shape.

In the good old days I played some college football, lifted constantly, played a lot of sports for hobbies, and ate whatever I wanted. I weighed about 215 (at 6-1) and could bench 375 and squat 550.

Running and condtioning was my weakness, but my bodyfat was about 12% with all the working out. That is why I am trying to run a marathon this year, I want to do something that I previously believed impossible for me.

This is surely going to be a process as I learn more and figure out what is best for working out and my schedule. I am going to try and do this outside, no gym, as much as possible. Being inside an office most of the day has made it very important to me to workout outside as much as possible. I may get weights, and some basic equipment for home use though as needed.
My goals are pretty simple but also pretty disparate:

Whittle my fat self down to about 10-12% bodyfat
-run a marathon under 5 hours in 2009
-do 25 pullups
-bench 225 lbs. 20 times

Me, currently:
I am at 20.7% bodyfat, 219 pounds
My longest run has been 15 miles pretty slowly, about 11:30/min. pace. My pace will need to be a bit better to get under the 5 hr mark.
I can do 14 pullups with good form and full extension
Bench – 225 lbs. x 9 times

I will try and post photos on a monthly basis and track my progress as I have time to do so....

Thank you all for your posts, so much great information on here to work with and learn from.

-Scott
