I totally agree with the post above. Do your cardio on the same day as your lifting (Preferrably right after your strength workout). I was doing some serious low rep high intensity strength training over the last 4 months. I was doing Tabatas runs on my off days. Needless to say, I never realized my potential on my tabata runs because I was still recovering from the lifting. I was lifting 2 days a week followed by 2 days a week of intense tabata runs. My cardio went through the roof but it could have been better.
It all depends on how hard you want to work.
High intensity interval training is the way to go if you want a bang for your buck.
