I've found that awful DOMS (the "I can't go up or down the stairs without crying" type) is sometimes relieved by pushing through and working out - but I don't know that I'd have gone full-out like you did!
OTOH, I can have a pretty vicious (and self-destructive) competitive streak every once in a while, and if that means I have to show-up a skinny guy (especially one spouting bro-knowledge), then... oh well, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
