You could get sidewalk chalk at any WalMart, Target, etc. that sells kid's stuff. It should be wherever crayons and stuff like that are.

It's about as hard as blackboard chalk- you just rub it on your hands and if they are calloused you'll get plenty on there- or you could rub it on the knurling of the bar first, and it'll go on you hands easy after that because it's all scraped up.

It's not as easy to get on your hands, but it doesn't get anywhere else, so the gym staff can't bitch.

Alco, this tip is for people that lift in places that are anal, where you work out does not apply, therefore your preference is irrelevant.
