It depends on the organization obviously. Some folks like a traditionally quiet place to contemplate and are not so open as we would like. Do some shopping around, whether it be for a good organization or site to connect to people with.
However, I will say this. Free weights are better because they are real weight. And in person organizations are better because they are more functional interactions. Internet, as well as machines in fitness, should be rehab based, and if you are able, lower the weight, or lower the pressure in an outside organization, and meet some people.
Martial arts dojos are very low pressure socially, however high pressure physically. Gyms, ive noticed at later times, around 7:30-10 pm are the best for this type of crowd (my favorite), and if it's a church, I suggest one that is not a huge church, but that fills up the pews, so that you are next to people, and that has people who look you in the eye and say hello sincerely (of course allow for exceptions lol), because in church you don't have to talk, but it is acceptable to do so. Good place to meet people with low pressure therefore, although it can be spiritually pressuring during the sermon or uncomfortable due to annoyance or irritation.
My opinion, do what you think is best.
