Honestly, i think it's an ego thing. I mean, what's more fun, saying you squatted 1000 or saying you squat 500-600 raw? Not to say we don't have this in strongman. I mean the whole thing is kinda an ego booster... like telling someone you pulled a semi, or lifted a car.
500-600 raw does not equal 1000.. more like 700-800. Ive raw squatted right around 6, my best squat (in a gym) is 800 (meet: 755).

there is some money in it, not alot- but some. Pro-ams are generating between 5-10k for the winners and more cash meets are appearing every dya.

im convinced powerlifting is on an upswing right now, even at local meet here it costs $10 to watch and there are a few hundred people most of the time.
