Here, tuna comes in white and light. White is very light in color and can be in solid pieces or broken up a bit, while light tuna is a little darker and not in solid pieces. It's more "shredded."
You can get white or light in water or oil, depending on your preference.
Light tuna comes from smaller fish, and possible from a different type of tuna, than white. Since the fish are smaller and younger, they haven't eaten as many other fish yet, which would have caused their mercury content to go up.
We call all sorts of fish tuna (tuna, albacore, tongol, etc.). You might use the real names for them in Belgium.
I've heard that canned tuna is sort of a "specialty food" in Europe, and not "everyday food" like it is here. Is this true? Here, tuna can be really cheap (88 cents a can, at the store yesterday, for chunk light, in water.).
