Sounds like that will simplify his life a little. I can certainly relate to that desire. It really sucks when you look back on the last few years of your life and realize that you have spread yourself so thin that you aren't doing any of them well. Especially when being a partner and parent.
There are only so many human energy hours (HEH) we can put out in a day. Some people (like Ryan) can handle a bit more than others, but there is still only a finite amount from which to draw. A wise man learns what his HEH account has to give and divides it evenly between the few things he/she wants to do extremely well. Someone who is headed for an inevitable collision with reality will possibly lose everything by trying to DO everything.
I can juggle 3 or 4 things really well. 15 things? Not so much. I'm glad to see him being pro-active on this. Ryan and I have very similar personalities, and doing too many things is an easy trap to get caught in for people like that. The unwritten message in his announcement is that the extra time he has just given himself goes back into his HEH account so that his family can make more withdrawals. That is how you stay married and keep a family together.
