The owner still needs to sell, right? If he gets "rebates" for the Trek that he doesn't get for the Jamis, it's in his best interest to sell Treks (provided that the Trek is a good bike for the customer).
If that's the case, then letting the cat out of the bag is not the best strategy. If he admits the other bike is a better deal, then he didn't make his pitch correctly.
