I don't know exactly why you brought up the kicking on your back part but that's one of my favorite things to do. I just flip over and do a lap on my back with no arms involved every three or four laps or so. When I flip back over, my kick is the best ever. It soon wears off and my mediocre freestyle kick soon returns

but for a length or two, I feel very smooth and it feels GREAT!
