You said "Food nerd". Reminds me of other phrases I've heard young people (college-my age) use (not towards me, but in general):
"Workout geek"
"Art fag"
"Health nut"
"Math nerd"
And so forth... whenever someone's extremely dedicated or interested in something, others who don't share this love label it with something demeaning. Is this a fear of something they don't understand, or simply a "trying really hard is not cool" thing?
