Does a cycling commute defeat resistance training?
Hi all,
I'm looking at getting back to the bench for a 3 day/week resistance program, most likely TBT or Beach Muscles.
I cycle to work (~10-12 miles return) each day. While the intensity of the ride does vary, I'd say it's closer to steady state, and definitely not HIIT. An average commute.
My question is:
Does this cycling defeat the purpose of a hypertrophy program? If so, does it do so to such an extent that I should just follow a fat-loss resistance program until I'm not cycling anymore (that means November - I live in Winnipeg, Canada), and then switch over to more of a hypertrophy-oriented program? Or will a regular commute not interfere with muscle growth?
I realize I'll have to adjust my calorie intake b/c of the commute.
I'm 35, haven't worked out steadily for ~ 5 months.
I just want to make sure all my ships are sailing in the same direction.
Thanks for the help!
