Thanks. I tried a lot of the principals posed in these books. It can be tough to follow. It's expensive and troublesome (read freakin' annoying) to follow the Paleo Diet to the letter. The takeaway for me is to consider what steps you can take to get
closer to this style of diet.
BTW, The Paleo Diet for Athletes (also Loren Cordain) would be a better reading choice for most people here. He admits that the "bad" carbs are valuable for athletes in this one, and shows how they can be used to enhance recovery and performance. If the Neanderthals had
this version of the book, we might be the extinct ones... whew.
Popular JPFitness Folk diets that (in some ways) closely conform to paleo diet suggestions are:
TNT - Targeted Nutrition Tactics
PN - Precision Nutrition
MA - The Metabolism Advantage
All allow dairy to some degree, and I don't remember why Cordain said dairy was bad. I don't think he said "cavemen didn't eat it, so we shouldn't either." He had detailed reasons.
All allow the "bad" carbs to some degree, as well. Timing and portion control is used here.
