Default Weird hip flexor problem

I've had this issue for a good 6-8 months now and kept hoping it would go away but so far no such luck. But it's kind of strange....

My right hip flexor seems to act up and give me pain when doing easy things but not during the hard things. For instance, when I take off my pants and raise my right leg to take my leg out of the pants, I have to lower my leg slowly or there is a fairly good chance my hip flexor will give out and pretty much cause me to fall over. Or if I raise my leg up to tie my shoe it will do the same thing. So raising my right leg seems to do this fairly consistently. And it's almost like a cross between a pain and just flat out not working. But if I lower my leg slowly it seems to not affect it quite as much.

But here is the really weird part. I've been working out pretty hard for the past 4 months doing New Rules of Lifting and then also doing kickboxing for the past month as well. And my leg never bothers me in the slightest while doing either of those activities. For instance, yesterday I did squats at 205 pounds, deadlifts at 215 pounds, bulgarian split squats at 120 pounds and step-ups at 120 pounds all with no complaints from my hip flexor. Yet when I take my shorts off it just wants to give out.

I'm pretty much stumped about this and wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this. I initially thought it was a strength problem but I have gotten considerably stronger than I was 8 months ago yet the pain still remains.
