Susan Kleiner is pretty good. Like you said, it's a pretty carb heavy diet, compared to most "diets" these days. But, if you are keeping up the long distance stuff, maybe that's good.
I don't think many of the books that you mentioned have recipes, but I'm not sure. I almost always skip that section of the book, anyway.
Most mainstream diet/nutrition books are for losing fat, not gaining muscle. Scrawny to Brawny is an exception, but unless you're actually scrawny, there's no need for that level of eating. I think the protein and fat/protein and carb thing is sort of outdated, too.
