I think that you could try logging your activity in addition to your food. You say you both overeat on days you feel you've been active. Or think you've been active. Thinking and feeling are different than knowing. I eat an extra 300 kcal a day on days that I workout, sometimes a little more if those fall on my heavy cleaning days, but I am pretty good about logging both activity and diet. Try that before spending money on equipment that may or may not help you
