Carbohydrates fuel better workouts.
There are a million articles and diets and recommendations on how to avoid and manipulate carbs at certain times of day... but if you are doing intense workouts, get some carbs in you.
If you want to get nitpicky about physique at some point, there might be some more 'limitations'... but for now, that oatmeal/toast sounds good to me - though some people get the "repeats" from oatmeal if it's eaten too close to a workout.
