I've done three times a week. I've done four (not every week, but something like M, W, F, Sun.). I've done two when I got busy or stressed or whatever.
Three is great, because like marygrace said, it's regular and you get into a rhythm. But 2 is okay. You're still going to make gains.
The last couple of weeks I've been doing 2x a week, mostly because I just sort of lost my footing and was struggling a bit. But I don't consider it a failure. 2x a week is certainly respectable. If it's a matter of time, do what you can. Or maybe you're training for something else and that's your first priority. It doesn't matter. Just do as much as you can and challenge yourself.
