his reasoning for not using a flat bench was b/c he believes that is causes many more pec tears than incline benching. I think it's kind of valid. I never liked benching, probably b/c i suck at it, but i like incline benching a lot more. Of course, there are some that believe that certain "assistance" can cause an increase in pec tears too, but there's really no solid evidence to this, i don't think.

oh I missed the pec tear thing, I thought the though with said assistance was more increasing chances of tendon damage because the tendon can't adapt as quickly a the assisted muscle, which I buy that explaination. Then you could argue that incline bench decreases risk of tendon damage because you use less weight.
