I've found that the split squat, along with prodigious amounts of glute activation, worked really well for me own knees buckling in problem.

Search for Eric Cressey's "You don't know squat" article too. It's a good read. I posted it in a previous thread I started regarding the exact same question. Lisa also added 2 articles by Rippetoe and Hartman which are great reads.
