If I were you, I would stop running until the foot strain heals. Find some other activity like biking (or even "conditioning" routines with weights ) to keep up your endurance fitness.
I'm convinced that podiatrists prescribe orthotics for everyone who wander into their offices. I saw one last Spring and was prescribed orthotics. I used them for a couple of weeks and stopped using them. I decided to work on my running gait (especially footstrike) instead, and the original problem has not returned. There are some threads in here about "barefoot" running (not really barefoot, but using very flat running shoes) that have a lot of information about training running technique.
