Default half IM in Oct.

ok so i am training for my first tri which will take place in April and its olympic length. My wife has done 3 Tris (olympic, one sprint and one iron girl) already and is getting pretty good at them and she asked me last night if i wanted to sign up for a half IM in Oct. i told her i need to focus on the task at hand. but then i started thinking. its 10 months away. by the 4 month mark i will be at olympic length shape (hopefully, otherwise i am screwed) and that would give me 6 more months to double that. so the question is do you all think that is a realstic goal? or should i just keep training and get more olympics and sprints and such under my belt before movign on? any and all advice is, as always, greatly appreciated.
