I was once told that one-footed hopping equates to 90% rehab (as in, we'll get you back to 90%). In PT this last time, we went up to 1 min one-footed balancing, including movement and eyes closed - my proprioception still sucks. What I noticed is that before my break, for years and years, I'd do little "twists" or "turnovers" - minor really - kind of often - like walking on uneven ground or the dogs lunge suddenly - and after rehabbing from my surgery and keeping up with balance and strength since then, now I'll step wrong or do something dumb and think "hey - before I would have turned my ankle doing that" and yet this time I didn't.
