It takes 1-2 months to get accustomed to it. I know, it hurts like hell, but per T. Gentilecore, that means you definitely need it.
If you need, use the other leg to take some weight off the roller. In time, you'll be fully suspending both legs in mid air while you roll over it.
Also, in case you didn't, get yourself some tennis balls, grind your calves and mash your soles!
