Diabetes Update etc
My Internist who reluctently supports my goal of near normal blood sugar levels wrote me an Rx for long acting Insulin, Lantus. This means only one injection a day, and it seems to be working. I have been using 20 rather than the 16 units he recommends, and my numbers are moving close to where I want them.
I had an appointment with eye doc today. He doesn't have any doubts that I should be low carbing, and aiming for normal Blood Glucose levels. I have mentioned before that I have had two sessions of retinopathy (that is the cause of blindness amongst diabetics), but this time everything looks good. And he told me to come back in a year. Both great news and a little scary. He also thinks he has found an Endo guy who likes patients to have low, that is normal, BGs.
I also have started using Brad Pilon's Eat Stop Eat plan, two days a week fasting from after dinner until the next dinner time. I watch my BGs closely, and find it quite easy. I don't get hungry until about 3 or 4 the next afternoon. Allegedly research shows insulin resistence going down from intermittent fasting.
