Knee Pain
1. When did the pain begin
Three months ago.
2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time?
Morning after a flag football game. No single incident during the game.
3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
Just below outside of right knee. If front of knee is 12:00 this would be 3:00 mostly on the top of the bone you can feel coming up from the lower leg-tibia?
4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
All of above at different times
5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?
6. What motions make your pain worse?
Squatting, even to pick something up from the floor.
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
Advil provides temporary relief.
8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
No.
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?
No mobility problem, just pain.
10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?
No.
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?
No better, no worse.
I'm requesting info for my 22 year old son. He is not one to complain unless it's pretty bad. Back round, he has wrestled and played football from 1st through 12th grades and wrestled 2 years at the D1 college level so cumulative wear and tear is possible. He finally got to see an Ortho yesterday who took x-rays, poked and prodded and said, "give it a few more weeks, maybe it will get better." He didn't think an MRI would be worthwhile. My first thought was just inflammation and that a month of Advil may cure it, but I'm no expert. I don't see how something that hasn't improved in 3 months is going to improve on it's own in 3 weeks. Any help is appreciated.
