What's another word to use instead of pressure? Anticipation? "I felt great anticipation at performing/competing, and looked forward to victory." Something like that.
Alternatively, we can change the meaning/sense of what pressure means. How do we do that? What new or alternative meanings/association can be use? Remember, the right pressure over time makes diamonds.
Same can be said for tension. Too much tension causes a string to break. However, without sufficient tension, the string doesn't sound.
Pressure and tension are OK concepts, but the associations we use are bad.
