Meditation is a mixed bag. It has been shown scientifically to increase concentration and memory and improve mood. On the other hand it has been shown to have the negative side effects I already mentioned. It's not a one size fits all solution. If it works for you, go for it. If you end up feeling worse for it like I did find something else.
The negative effects shown were probably due to ineffective meditation methods. Meditation is one of, if not the best, thing to do for oneself. The key is to know how to meditate. Working out can be dangerous and have negative side effects if done incorrectly as does anything for that matter. The same is true with meditation.
