Some people experience negative effects from meditation including facial tics, flat affect, loss of the sense of reality, feeling "spaced out", increased feelings of anxiety etc...
Meditation is a mixed bag. It has been shown scientifically to increase concentration and memory and improve mood. On the other hand it has been shown to have the negative side effects I already mentioned. It's not a one size fits all solution. If it works for you, go for it. If you end up feeling worse for it like I did find something else.
