Agreed. That's actually how I got started as well: reading Men's Health, and like you and LD, while it was entertaining and thought-provoking at first (simply because I hadn't thought about organized, goal-oriented training before), it ultimately became just another (albeit still important) stepping stone.

On the one hand, anyone reading this forum who NEEDS to be reading this forum is at least better than good ol' Bob. On the other hand, just as in my own development, fitness is a never-ending progression. Hitting a plateau every now and then is normal, but becoming complacent with where you are rather than continue to strive for improvement risks that proverbial rut, differing from a grave only in depth.
