First Race of the Season
Although I haven't been posting much recently, I can assure you that I have been training my ass off!!
I had my first race of the new year this past weekend. It was the St. Patty's Day Sprint Triathlon in Keller, TX. The distances were fairly short, but that was understandable given that it was mid-March and fairly cold (mid-40's at race start).
300m Swim
12 mi Bike
5km Run
This has been my best performance to date. I originally finished 27th overall out of about 300 (and 6th in my age group), but then when the official results were released I saw that I was hit with a 2 minute penalty. Technically this dropped my down to about 39th overall and 7th in my age group. Just a technicality!
My times:
Swim: 6:00 (on the slow side, but this has never been my strength)
T1: 1:22 (pretty smooth transition)
Bike: 35:54; 20.1 mph (it was cold as hell on the ride! I was pleased with my time)
T2: 2:11 (I couldn't tie my shoes because my hands were so cold, and then I started to run out of the transition area without my race number)
Run: 21:00; 6:47 pace (very pleased with the run, but I know I can do even better than this).
This race was just a primer for my big event coming up. I will be competing in the Lavaman Triathlon in Hawaii in 9 days! This will be my first venture into the Olympic distance. I'm definitely ready for it! I'm also doing this race as a member of TEAM in Training, so I'm helping to support a great cause.
