After rubbing on it for a minute, the pain subsided. I get up to get a drink, and it's worse now than ever.

So, I poked around some more, working my way up my calves, and noticed that the lateral head of my gastroc is EXTREMELY tight. I've been doing some extra ankle mobility work lately, which has stretched my calves out some.

Could this have lead to the tight gastroc, which in turn is causing my foot pain?
Steve,
If you remember my thread about my ankle sprain suffered over 8 months ago. I have the same type of pain you are referring to EVERY MORNING upon awakening...but after a few steps and about 3- 5 minutes, its goes away. I have rolled a tennis ball on the bottom of my foot 2x/week and it has helped the pain to minimize in duration.
